Assessing the role of councillors in service delivery at local government level in South Africa (Center for Policy Studies SA, 24 Aug 2010)

Local government in South Africa has, since the transition to democracy, undergone a series of changes to meet the needs of a consolidating democracy and the development of the country’s citizens. This research report presents the findings of a study that explores the role of elected public representatives in service delivery to ensure that citizens have their needs addressed. It also focuses on examining existing systems of participatory governance to improve the quality of citizen participation in decision-making at the local municipal level, and in determining the content of Integrated Development Planning.
