Geocoding: An important milestone for aid transparency (aidinfo.org, 13 Aug 2010)

A substantial body of aid information has, for the first time, been geocoded.

Over the last few months a team of researchers from Development Gateway and AidData have worked with the World Bank to add detailed subnational geographical information to all of the Bank’s active projects.

Mapping this information enables a better understanding of where aid goes, ensuring that aid money flows to those who need it most. Geocoding is the process of identifying and recording the geographic coordinates and administrative areas of all locations where aid activities take place.
