Global Programme Donors Meeting: from action to telling the story
When transformative action is being achieved towards countries better governance and development, its stories should be told to practitioners as well as the general public. This is the core message from the meeting between the UNDP global programme on democratic governance assessments and its donor partners which took place at the Oslo Governance Centre on February 2, 2010. The participants discussed the activities, funding perspectives and future plans of the global programme based on the 2009 Annual Report, 2010 Work Plan and presentations by the programme team.
The representatives from DFID (Department for International Development), the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NORAD (Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation), SIDA (Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs all welcomed the initial impact that the global programme is achieving at the country level, like in Djibouti where it has made a clear difference in the African Peer Review Mechanism process (See “Djibouti uses APRM Pioneers experience to draw its own innovative course”[link]).The partners encouraged the programme to report more frequently on such country stories and to write them in general language so as to make them accessible to both professionals and non-specialists, in order to raise awareness on the transformative power of governance assessments and thus stimulate similar actions.
This was the first of a series of annual global programme donors meetings. For more information please contact joachim.nahem@undp.org.
