Blogpost: Two ways of overcoming government failure (World Bank, 26 April 2011)

In his blogpost "Two ways of overcoming government failure", World Bank Chief Economist for Africa Shanta Devarajan argues that the reasons for why the majority of the electorat in many poor african countries doesn’t vote in favor of policies that will benefit the majority are political market failures. These are situations where for various reasons, such as ethnicity or lack of information, people vote along lines that are different from outcomes such as health, education, agricultural productivity or jobs. He continues by explaining two ways of overcoming these market failures.
