High-level consultative meeting (13-174 Dec, Bangkok) on promoting effective use of statistical data for policy analysis and advocacy (ESCAP, 6 Nov 2010)

The Hight-level consultative meeting organised under the joint ESCAP/UNDP/ADB programme titled Supporting the Achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in Asia and the Pacific (Phase III). The meeting will be held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok from 13 to 14 December 2010.

The meeting aims to identify priority issues and contribute to the development of a regional strategy to promote the use of statistical data for policy analysis and advocacy for informed decision-making with regard to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and related economic and social policies. More specifically, the meeting is expected to produce recommendations on:

  • Essential elements of a strategy to promote more effective use of statistical data to inform decision-making with regard to the achievement of MDGs as well as other economic and social development goals in ESCAP region. These will include priority issues and challenges, as well as concrete measures that can be taken by both national statistical systems and development partners;
  • Guidelines for systematically documenting and disseminating good practices on the use of statistical data for policy analysis and advocacy, including procedures of selecting and conducting case studies.
