International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance
The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) is an inter-governmental organization whose programmes aim to provide knowledge to democracy builders, provide policy development and analysis, and support democratic reform.
IDEA developed the State of Democracy assessment framework and Democracy at the Local Level, which adopt a citizen assessment approach that entails country-specific qualitative assessments led by in-country experts. These frameworks are intended to enhance public debate and to identify and evaluate reform priorities. IDEA produces handbooks and other tools to assist local actors in implementation of the assessment.
IDEA also maintains the Global Database of Quotas for Women, in cooperation with Stockholm University. The database provides information on types of quotas in existence, detailing the percentages and targets in countries where they are applicable. The database is intended as a working research tool.
